To remind those September 11th responders and survivors who were diagnosed with certain cancers prior to October 12, 2012 that they must register for the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund by October 14, 2014 a press conference was held in New York City. Representatives Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12) and Jerrold Nadler (NY-10) who led the fight with Representative Peter King (NY-2) in the House of Representatives, held a press conference with first responders, labor leaders, community representatives and advocates for 9/11 survivors to stress the importance of registering within the next seven days. NYS Laborers Health and Safety Fund Executive Director Mickey Kelly participated in the event stressing how important it is for our members to be in this program and to register. He used real life examples to explain how important this program is and why responders and survivors should participate. LECET also taped the press conference and edited the video to be used a promotional device to spread the information regarding the deadline.
Claimants with a qualified condition who plan to file a claim with the VCF will have two years from the date of diagnosis to file a registration form in order to preserve the right to file a claim. Claimants diagnosed on or before October 12, 2012 with one of the eligible cancers must register with the Fund by October 14, 2014. For additional information and to register please visit the VCF’s website at www.vcf.gov.
