The New York State Laborers' Union represents over 40,000 members employed in the construction industry and other fields throughout the state.
Our members are organized into more than 24 local unions and 5 district councils. We are a proud affiliate of the Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA).
On June 26, 2013, the Alliance for a Greater New York (ALIGN), a coalition of labor unions and community groups held their annual Movement Builders Awards.
One of the three honorees for this year was Edison Severino, Business Managers of Local 78. Edison was honored for his work as a labor leader for his efforts at Local 78 and with LiUNA and for his close work with community organizations on the response to Hurricane Sandy and other joint efforts.
Working with community organizations in areas affected by the storm, Edison has advocated for better cleanup of damaged homes and buildings and helped to establish a program to provide mold assessment and abatement for damaged homes. New York State Laborers’ Tri-Funds Administrator Jim Melius, a member of the ALIGN board, introduced Edison.
Many LIUNA representatives attended the meeting including Ray Pocino, LIUNA Vice-President and Eastern Regional Manager, and Bobby Bonanza, Business Manager of the Mason Tenders District Council.
