The New York State Laborers' Union represents over 40,000 members employed in the construction industry and other fields throughout the state.
Our members are organized into more than 24 local unions and 5 district councils. We are a proud affiliate of the Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA).
The Champlain Hudson Power Express, a high-voltage transmission line that will extend from Quebec to Queens cleared has cleared a major regulatory hurdle with the Department of Energy. The direct current line, was granted a "presidential permit," one of the last approvals needed for construction. If completed, the line would ship Canadian hydroelectric power to Con Edison's Rainey substation in Queens. Transmission lines would be partially built under Lake Champlain as well as under sections of the Hudson and Harlem rivers. The NYS LECET Fund and the NYS Laborers Organizing Fund have worked hard to support this project at local hearings and they will continue to be there to help push the project forward.
