The New York State Laborers' Union represents over 40,000 members employed in the construction industry and other fields throughout the state.
Our members are organized into more than 36 local unions and 5 district councils. We are a proud affiliate of the Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA).
It will not draw New Yorker’s attention as much as One World Trade or even any of the new bridge or subway projects, but the Water Tunnel No. 3 project is one of the most significant milestones for New York City’s water supply in over 100 years. Considered by many as the City’s largest capital construction project ever undertaken, this project took over 40 years to complete and cost $4.7 billion dollars.
With doubts that this project would ever be completed due to lack of funding, this week’s completion of the project proves the resilience of the local union 147 members who worked on it. Twenty four workers were fatally injured working on this project.
