Local Union 147 held their annual memorial mass. The mass is held every year on Ascension Thursday at the Saint Barnabas church in Woodlawn, NY. The mass commemorates the deaths of 24 workers that died, 1 per mile of tunnel, in construction related incidents during the work on New York City Water Tunnel No. 3. To commemorate the 24 tunnel workers there is also memorial located at the traffic circle near Van Cortlandt Park at the intersection of Van Cortlandt Park East and Katonah Avenue. The memorial includes 24 manhole covers with the names of the people who died.
