This week, photographs of Local 79 female Shop Stewards were featured prominently in an Associated Press article on women in the construction trades. The article took a look at the number of women in the construction trades, some of the issues that face women as they pursue a career in construction, and the efforts made by groups such as Non-Traditional Employment for Women and apprenticeship programs such as Local 79′s to increase the percentage of women in the building trades. The article drew heavily from a recent study entitled “Women in Construction: Still Breaking Ground.” To read the entire AP article please go to this link: http://bigstory.ap.org/article/few-women-construction-recruiting-efforts-rise
