The New York State Laborers' Union represents over 40,000 members employed in the construction industry and other fields throughout the state.
Our members are organized into more than 36 local unions and 5 district councils. We are a proud affiliate of the Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA).
On Sunday, in New York City, the WABC Channel 7 public affairs program Here and Now included a segment about the Mason Tenders Training Fund. The program is a local public affairs show, hosted by Sandra Bookman and addresses issues of concern and interest to the African American community. The piece covered the fact that the organized construction industry offers greater opportunity for young minority men and women than the non-union sector. The first part of the story was filmed in the ABC studio with Sean Brennan, David Melton and Rasul Heatley (a third year apprentice) being interviewed by Bookman. The second piece was filmed while a crew was out at the training facility shooting both classroom and hands on training of over 40 apprentices.
