The New York State Laborers' Union represents over 40,000 members employed in the construction industry and other fields throughout the state.
Our members are organized into more than 36 local unions and 5 district councils. We are a proud affiliate of the Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA).
This week, Greater New York LECET representatives and New York State LECET representatives attended the New York State MWBE FORUM in Albany, NY. This two-day forum is the largest statewide business opportunities event for MWBEs. Attendees learned about New York’s new projects and met New York’s public and private sector leaders in the field. The laborers hosted a booth and distributed information about our "Build Together" program. The program was designed to attract non-union MWBE contractors to broaden our union MWBE data base. Representatives at the booth made many contacts with minority contractors looking to become union signatory contractors. They will continue to these build relationships and our MWBE database.
Governor Cuomo said that the state has exceeded its goal set at last year’s conference of 20% MWBE's on public jobs and has a new goal of 30% that they want to reach.
