The New York State Laborers' Union represents over 40,000 members employed in the construction industry and other fields throughout the state.
Our members are organized into more than 36 local unions and 5 district councils. We are a proud affiliate of the Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA).
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey proposed a $27.6 billion 10-year capital plan to pay for projects including a new central terminal at LaGuardia Airport. Other projects include a proposed spending $1.2 billion to replace all the George Washington Bridge’s 592 suspender ropes, a $4.9 billion to complete rebuilding of the World Trade Center site in Manhattan in the next two years, a $1.5 billion extension of the PATH subway from lower Manhattan to Newark Liberty International Airport and to spend $1.2 billion on improvements there, including the redevelopment of Terminal A and a $1.6 billion in port improvements, a category into which officials lumped the raising of the Bayonne Bridge roadway, a project intended to expand access to container terminals in Newark and Elizabeth for the world's biggest ships. The capital plan would generate 126,000 jobs, $7.3 billion in wages, and $29 billion in economic activity.
