This week with the 13th anniversary of September 11th, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan), Jerrold Nadler (D-Manhattan) and Pete King (R-L.I.) announced legislation to extend the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, which provides treatment and compensation for sick 9/11 responders, until 2041.
This proposed 25-year extension of the bill, will help continue to provide health care and compensation to first responders and survivors of the terror attacks. The act was passed in 2010, but the health component is set to expire next October and the compensation program runs out in October 2016. Over 2,000 LiUNA members are enrolled in the program.
