Training/Apprenticeship

The New York State Laborers’ apprenticeship program is a path to a solid, fulfilling construction career that allows you to earn while you learn. Combining on-the-job training and nationally-recognized classroom instruction, the education New York State Laborers apprentices receive is second to none. Apprentices gain experience in cutting-edge construction practices while learning core skills, and quickly become knowledgeable and safe workers that contractors want on their jobsites. 

The NYS Laborers believe that each member, no matter how far along in their career as a laborer, should be provided with the opportunity to sharpen their skills, learn new practices and technology and receive career path training. NYS Laborers are consistently provided these opportunities through advanced classes that allow them to keep pace with the ever-changing construction industry, and enable them to become eligible for more job opportunities and advancements. 

We have 20 training facilities across the state, and our state-of-the-art training centers offer courses in such areas as environmental remediation, mason tending, pipe laying, drilling, blasting, asphalt work and more! 

In honor of National Apprenticeship Week, the Laborers Local 60 Training Fund and Local 1010 Training Fund joined forces to host an asphalt training for apprentices, and union members looking to refresh their skills. The hands-on training focused on the placement, spreading, raking and compaction of asphalt—and of course, the safest way to do all of it! These skills are CRUCIAL to heavy highway work—and we can all thank the men and women doing this difficult job for a safe, smooth drive throughout our communities!
